Yes people you are reading this correctly, I never had any intentions of being away from home for Christmas..... sorry to tell a few white lies - it was all worth it!!

You should have seen the looks on Mum, Dad and Sara's faces - it was totally worth it and they have all said that a suprise was better than knowing.

To those who did know, Jason, Louise, Stacey, Jane and Chris thank-you so much for keeping my secret for such a long time.

In case you were wondering there are a few things I would have changed about my trip if I had my time over:

1. I would have gone alone from the start.

2. I would have taken in an organised tour of South East Asia.

3. I would not have spent so much money in Australia on clothes!!!

4. I would have taken an SLR camera from the start (I bought one in New York with my Christmas money - thanks, Mum Dad and Granma!)

Now I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for being so incredibly supportive of me and my trip and for reading and commenting on my blog!!

I have a great network of family and friends and could not have done this without you and your continued support.

Signing out from Sunny Nunny.

(Until the next trip at least! ..........................)

Those of you who actually know me, know that I love Ally McBeal.... I got to see all the sights where scenes were filmed so you can imagine just how chuffed I was!!

I met some wonderful people and one, a woman from NYC was taking the same bus as me from Boston to NYC, she ended up offering me a free ticket to see Charlottes Web with her and her friends, so I went along the other night, and what a great movie!!! I had never seen it before, but will make an effort to see the original now (it may help that I had already bought it as a Crimstmas present for my niece!!)

Onto NYC .... well I have been here twice before so wasn't sure just how much I would want to do .... I was mistaken!! There is so much here to do!! So far I have visited the Guggenheim, The Met, the Natural History Museum, Central Park, Hells Kitchen (which too was amazing to me, again those of you who know me, know that I read mafia novels ... almost all of these are based in the Kitchen. Yesterday I saw one of the pizzerias and the Copacabana club featured in most Mafia books.

Also yesterday I went to a Broadway show, Monty Python's Spamalot - it was brilliant!! I am a bit sick and tired of the Yanks humour, they just do not understand dry humour and I needed some British comedy to revive my sense of humour!!

I have to go now as I only have 6 minutes left, but to those people how have text me recently I can't reply as I only have the tinest smidge of credit until I find another T-Mobile store.

Today I am going to Ground Zero, then I am going to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge and go into Chinatown. Busy busy!

It has been a while now hasn't it.... The only reason for that it that web use is so expensive over here that I can't afford to update this blog!

I am now in Toronto where it is $3 per hour so I am happy!

Firstly, Viva Las Vegas!!

I stayed at the Sahara Casino and Hotel on the Strip and had an entire room to myself!! It was sooo good to have my own space and my own bathroom for those 4 days.

Vegas is a wonderful place, totally in the middle of the desert, and is a lot bigger than I had expected. I was expecting the main strip and then maybe two or three other main roads, but it turns out that a lot of people actually want to live in Vegas which means that it is a lot bigger than you think! Probably about the same size as Birmingham including all the suburbs.

I gambled on Blackjack and slot machines and spent $100 in the 4 days, courtesy of my parents!! I won some back but lost track in the end!!

On day 3 in Vegas I took a day trip to the Grand Canyon. It is one of the most incredible places I have ever been to. (I probably won't go anywhere as amazing ever again) I managed to get a seat at the front of the bus so that when we pulled into the carpark I didn't hang around for anyone and got to enjoy the Canyon on my own for a good 15 minures before all of the fat Yanks turned up. I then walked the 3 mile trail to the village and met an Australian girl, Vanessa who was also on a RTW trip, it turned out she was on my bus way at the back, so we became buddies and enjoyed the scenery together.

The bus travelled over the Hoover Dam going to and from the GC. The bus has to be searched when you go over the Dam as they fear that someone will try to blow it up and flood Vegas.

Also, something we struck me as funny on the flight from Auckland to LAX was that it is illegal for passengers to congregate in the isles or by the bathrooms on the plane - strange or what?!

Next I flew to DC from Vegas with a stop in Cincinnati where the temperature was around -1.... this was my warning for just how cold DC was going to be.

DC was around -5 in the wind and around 2 out of the wind. It was the coldest place that I have ever been to. I had to buy a hat as soon as I arrived to keep me a little warm and I am still only halfway through knitting my scarf so I was a little chilly round the neck due to hacking all my hair off!!

The White House is nowhere near as impressive in real life but the US Capitol and the Washington Memorial are very impressive. There were tons of free museums on the Mall, I went in the Natural History and the Air & Space with a guy from the hostel, Paul who I had mety the night before. We had so many similar intrests including the Titanic and anything to do with flight; it made it great fun to spend the day together!

Yesterdya afternoon I left DC bound for Canada. I tried to change my bus ticket to Philadelphia but I wasn't allowed so I am here now!! I arrived at 7.30am after a very long bus trip. Toronto is not as cold as DC, probably because it is not on the coast, but it seems nice so far. I did some Christmas shopping today (Dad, I got you the best prez ever today!!) and have chilled out. I will do all the touristy things tomorrow (Monday) with a trip to Niagara Falls on Tuesday. I am going to the Greyhound station now to book a bus ticket to Boston for Wednesday as I am not keen at all on staying in Ottawa or Montreal as the prices are sky high as are the bus tickets. It's cheaper to shop here but not travel. I will then spend a few days in Boston, then go down to Philadelphia then either back to New York for Christmas or maybe down to Miami for Christmas then back to New York for New Year - who knows....

San Diego is a beautiful city and I wish I could have stayed there longer than 2 nights but I had a flight booked to San Francisco.

SF is so nice, the poverty is evident, but the sights are unreal. SF houses some of the steepest streets in the World so getting around is quite an effort! So far I have visited Union Square, Coit Tower, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, Fort Mason, the giant shopping centre (Westfield) and many other parks and squares!

Alcatraz was an interesting place.... I can't say that it was "nice" because it wasn't, but it was eye-opening. The prison is just over a mile away from land so it must have been touture for the convicts to look out of there windows to see the Golden Gate Bridge and the city just out of reach.

The bridge is beautiful - it's a long walk from the city - it took us 5 hours to get there from the city centre, where we are staying. The walk over the bridge was tiring but totally worth it.

Yesterday I went to Yosemite National Park which was absolutely amazing. I met an Australian Pilot, Pete, who is only 24!!! Then Boris the Slovianian who was sooo funny. We hung out together and had a wonderful time. Yosemite Falls had dried up in September which was a shame, but the hike to the Giant Sequoias involved an hour hike in SNOW!!! It was about 5 inches deep in places which people hadn't already walked over. It was such an incredible experience.

Today I am going on another walking tour of the city to see some of the older buildings which weren't destroyed in the great quake. I don't know when I will be able to put more photos on the web as the internet is soooo expensive here. This hostel lets you on the web for free for 15 minutes at a time, which is a big help!

That's all for now!

I have arrived in Hollywood! The flight was very long and uncomfortable due to a fat American (aren't they all) who had his elbow dug in my ribcage for the entire flight. I didn't sleep for the whole 12 hours, but managed to watch 4 movies.

So we arrived and every American I have met so far has asked where I am going, when I tell them the first few places they ask if I have friends there, I say no, I am just travelling and they say, "what, by yourself?!" The US is clearly not set up for backpackers.

I took the airport shuttle and accidentally gave the driver the name of the wrong hostel, who as it happens did not have any rooms available. It was a 30 minute walk to the real hostel but there was no way I was doing that, so I wandered down Hollywood Blvd with my backpack and went to the nearest hostel. Oh. My. God. It is such a dump. It is the most expensive backpackers I have stayed in since leaving the UK, it is 14GBP per night. For my 14GBP per night I get a matress with all the springs sprung, a shower which points higher than my head so I have to use my hand to direct the flow of water and well the kitchen.... don't get me started. (This, Nan, is why I have nearly cried twice since arriving!!)

Hollywood is full of deadbeat dropouts and wannabees. Today I visited the Los Angeles Contemporary Museum of Art and saw the Magritte exhibition, which was amazing. I got to see The Lovers again - it was the painting from Canberra just in a different frame.

I have taken photos of the LA skyline from Hollywood but the smog makes it look very gross. In fact if you look just 2 blocks down the street everything is hazy from the smog - it's so disgusting.

I haven't seen any famous people yet, but there was a photographer hovering near where the road was cordoned off - I am going to go back and wait for the super star to emerge!!

Y'all have a Good Day now, y'hear!

Well don't get too excited for me, but I am off to LA tomorrow - wooooooohoooooooo.

I'm glad that I was only in New Zealand for 2 weeks as I have managed to see everything I wanted and have not spent too much money, as I feared that I would.

Rotorua was awesome, it was stinky, but only if you were standing within 10 feet of a mud pool or some kind of thermal area. They actually have volcanic areas within 2 minutes walk from the CBD. It's incredibly scary to think that one day a big explosion will wipe out the entire city. The last eruption was in 2001... not so long ago!

I saw Wai-O-Tapu and Waimangu thermal parks and saw the Lady Knox Geyser erupt - it was all pretty exciting!

The weather was pretty awful in Rotorua - the plane was diverted to Auckland as the cloud was so low. But that was ok, at least we were safe!

Onto Waitomo Caves .... the village itself is tiny! There was one shop, one internet cafe and one visitor centre. As soon as we arrived i booked onto a tour of one of the caves, it was the longest tour you could take without getting wet (by going rafting!) It was a wonderful tour, the guide was very knowledgable. Well, there's not much more to say about that. There is a photo or two on photobucket, but as you can imagine the pictures didn't turn out well, so I am not uploading them!

Auckland is a nice city, but as it is built on a volcanic area everyting, and I really mean everything is uphill!! It's really annoying at times as the walk from the bus stop to the hostel only seemed like a 10 minute walk on the map.... in realisty it took me 40 minutes and I nearly died from exhaustion!

That's all for now readers, I only have 9 minutes left til i explode..... hahaha - nah not really!!

Hello people!

More pictures on the web today - all sorts of weird and wacky ones this time!

I am also uploading some videos onto youtube - I will send you the link when I figure out how to do it!

So ..... I happily left Queenstown behind me - It's ok to go there for 1 or 2 days but if you have no plans to attempt certain death or back injury with all the extreme sports, it's not a place for a holiday!!

I did a couple of walks and a trip to the Deer Park to see (suprisingly) Deer! Oh, and heaps of LOTR scenery .... I even managed to get a picture of Gollum - on no wait, that was me....

Onto Fox - I stayed in the only backpackers in town and met the most wonderful Spanish girl, Elsa and another girl from Argentina who's name we never found out! Elsa had enough money for the whole day walk on the ice so off she went. Me, I had enough money to do just about nothing .... so I took a shuttle to the other side of the Glacier and decided to attempt a couple of demanding walks for good views of the ice and eventually I would end up on the road to the terminal (that's where the glacier comes to a rest)

I set off on the Moraine walk and saw not one sole! I got scared half to death by a possum and didn't see the ice.... I made it back to the road and walked to the next viewpoint and got such a good view of the Glacier I was amazed that there was no-one around.

You have to understand that this place I was at was further away than the normal accessible view points. I have become highly aware of the large amounts of Japanese tourists snappy snapping at everything they see and getting incredibly excited - to say the least I avoid these people like the Plague - I would rather become Prime Minister of the World and take their passports of them forever!

Sorry about that, so the next hike was 4km to another walk which involved crossing streams - I was warned that due to heavy rainfall that it may be unsafe - believe me, it was really unsafe!!

I walked onto the next track, again got some amazing views of the Glacier and had to cross one of those scary rope bridges... only this time there was a raging torrent of ice water underneath it and not a sole in sight. I was the only person on this side of the water! I crossed it eventually (obviously otherwise I wouldn't be writing this blog!) Beyond the bridge was the main road with bus after bus of tourists packed in.

Next to the main road was the Fox River which was surrounded both sides with hundreds and hundreds of rocks - I decided to go cross country to the Glacier along the rocks - it was sooo pretty, and everyone else was missing out - hahaha. It turned out that the joke was on me when the rocks ended.

Hmmmm... rather than walk ALL the way back, I did what us frogs do best and waded across minus my shoes and socks .... Jeeeeezuz - I think my body temperature briefly dropped to 10 below, but it was sooooo brilliant to go back to the hostel and say "Yeah, I walked in the water"

After my brief paddle I walked up to the Glacier, it was ok, but there were too many people there and it spoilt it! Fox is the less touristy glacier, what would Franz be like?!? I was later informed that Franz was closed due to rainfall, so that explained that influx of people (the Glaciers are only 30 minutes apart)

Later that afternoon Elsa and I drove down to Lake Matheson but the weather was so bad that we decided to go back the next day (today) which we did and we did a little walk before going onto Franz and Greymouth, where I caught the Tranz Scenic train back to Christchurch. It wasn't so scenic as it was raining and there was tons of cloud around!!

I am now back in Christchurch and am flying up to Rotorua tomorrow, which is where all the geo-thermal and volcanic activity takes places. Apparently Rotorua smells like sulphur all the time!! I do hope that there are no eruptions there when I am visiting as that would really spoil things ...... hahaha

That's all for now - next report will be from Auckland! byebye

I am currently in Queenstown, where the majority of the filiming for the 2nd Lord of the Rings film took place .... I am keeping my eye out for that ring .....

Anyway, Christchurch was lovely - way too warm for my liking. I seem to have the warm weather following me, which is nice, but I was prepared for artic conditions!! I do have a cold though so the warmth is very welcome at the moment!! I was in Australia for 7 months and only caught one cough - I get to NZ and get sick!! Those of you who know me know that I get colds on a regular basis at home, so it makes me think that NZ could be twinned with England!!

Dunedin was a little cooler. Dunedin was a Scottish settlement, there is a huge statue of Robert Burns in the centre with lovely Cathedrals in town aswell. I was there on Saturday night and Sunday daytime, and everything was closed!! I took refuge in the Public Library reading English newspapers!!

Queenstown could be twinned with any skiing resort in the Alps, there are lots of log cabins, lakes and stunning views of the mountains - I have taken pictures but this computer has a dial-up connection and I don't have millions of pounds to waste whilst they upload!! I will do that when I get back to Christchurch on Thursday.

Bye bye for now fans!

I arrived in one piece, safe and sound. I was very sad to leave Australia and made sure I got a window seat to see it all left behind. I am very tempted to come back here with the remainder of my visa....

As the coast line of New Zealand approached I was gobsmacked .... it's quiet a difficult task to render me speechless, but the awe-inspiring range of mountains covered with piles of snow, indeed managed to do just that. It is something you have to experience yourself to believe just how beautiful it is.

Christchurch is soooo English it is unreal!! And, the Maori men are huge!! The airport shuttle driver was Maori and he could have lifted my 7 kilo backpack with his little finger!! That's right, only 7 kilos..... the remaning 10 kilos were crammed into my pull along trolley-bag to give my poor back a break! At least I have managed to get it down from 28 kilos when I left Sydney - I am impressed with myself. I'm not telling just how heavy the elephant pack I took on the plane with me was though - hahaha.

Well, I suppose I shoudl wrap it up now - oh yeah - the photos. Well I spent AGES in the internet cafe attempting to upload the pictures, but the computer died a death. I will try again tomorrow me thinks after my visit to the Antartic Centre and possible a walking tour of the mountains which surround Christchurch.

Goodbye my faithful readers!

Our tour included visiting Port Arthur - the convict prison, then the Tasman Peninsular, a variety of beaches and rocks and much more! Wineglass bay was beautiful, but involved a nasty hike to get to the lookout!

I flew back to Melbourne yesterday to watch the races at home. We all went out for my last night yesterday afternoon/evening and had a brilliant time! I am going to miss my new friends so much!!

I am in the middle of uploading new photos at the moment, so have a browse when you get chance.

The is me signing out from Australia, land of the young and free. Man, I'm gonna miss this place.

Firstly i would like to apologise for any grammatical errors in this entry. The shift key on this keyboard does not work!!!!!

I am now in Hobart, Tasmania, but would like to share with you my hellish view of the one horse town that calls itself Adelaide.

I arrived on saturday afternoon and met up with my crazy Irish friends which was just wonderful. I had an early night as i had to be up early for my kangaroo Island tour. A girl in my room who was incredibly hostile went to sleep fully dressed including shoes, woke up at 4.45 turned on the light and proceeded to get ready for work - she was soooo horrible. This already, made me hate her!!

I then went to join the tour group to Kangaroo Island to be greeted by a sea of wrinkles and this funny grey colour.... there were no people younger than 50 on my tour - oh no, this is not going to be good.

I boarded the bus half wishing i had not paid up front for my tour as i could have done a runner!! We got to Cape Jervis where we all boarded the bus, the ferry crossing was cool, very scenic. We landed at Kanga Island, where we boarded the actual tour bus. Low and behold a girl my age boards the bus!! I pray to the atheist gods that she will sit by me ..... and she does!! Yipeeeee. We laugh together about how many wrinklies there are on our tour and know that it's not going to be a strenuous day!!

We visited Seal Rocks, where we saw loads of sleepy seals and their pups. Then we did a scenic drive and saw an abundance of wildlife - many of them sleeping at the side of the road....

We saw koalas in the wild when doing a bush walk - we were told there are 27,000 koalas in Kanga Island - I saw 3 of them. Yipee do dah day!! We saw the Remarkable Rocks, crazy rock formations eroded away by the sea. We saw New Zealand fur seals and mini penguins. Jen and I spent the day being silly, childish and having great fun!! The photos will go up on the web when I return to Melbourne if I have chance.

Onto Hobart - I will just briefly say that this city (more like a town) is very quiet, but beautiful. They have forcasted snow up in the Mountains tonight - I hope so!! The scenery reminds me so much of home, and the tempartures are similar - it was 11 degrees when we landed this morning.

I am spending one more day in Hobart then going on a tour from hobart to Launceston for 3 days, then flying back to Melbourne on the 7th just in time for the Melbourne cup - the event which stops the nation. It's a shame I don't have enough money or a pretty dress to go to the races!!

That's all for now as i am annoyed with this shift key!!

On Friday, Stacey and I went on a backpacker tour of the Great Ocean Road, and it was just, well, kinda, Great! hahahaha

First we went to the lighthouse featured in "Round The Twist" a TV programme that only really people under 26 will remember! Then we went to the rainforest and did a bush walk and koala spotting, then to the 12 Apostles.

I expected to be overwhelmed by this Wonder of the World, but I wasn't, which was a shame. They are beautiful and everything, but just not overwhelming.

I am attempting to upload some pictures now, but it has taken me 30 minutes to burn one CD - I think the computers are a tad slow.

I only have 2.5 weeks left in Australia now, which is exciting and scary all at the same time.

Then 2 weeks in NZ and 6 weeks in the USA!!

Hello my darlings

Well my time in New South Wales is coming to an end.

Tomorrow is my last day at work, then I fly to Melbourne on Saturday to live with Stacey for 4 weeks in Moonee Ponds - home of Dame Edna Everage!!

Sydney is a wonderful, vibrant, busy city with incredible culture and has made me feel very welcome for the 9 weeks that I lived here. There were moments when I was ready to jack it all in and come home as I found the people here sooooo rude - after discovering it was the non-native's who gave me a false impression I started to have a damn good time!

So, tonight is the all important Panic! At The Disco gig, who most of you won't have heard of until just then. They are an amazing band from Las Vegas who are playing here tonight!! PATD are the sole reason that I stayed in Sydney for so long, I was not planning on getting a job here in Sydney and was going to watch PATD in Melbourne, but Icould only get a ticket or the Sydney gig, and I am so glad that I did otherwise I would never have met the wonderful people that I work and live with. Some of them I will never forget!! They give me a great excuse to have to come back here to visit!

I have uploaded some more photos of Sydney and a couple of me and my buddies celebrating my birthday in style!

Before we left Hervey Bay for Fraser Island, Barbara & I did a whale watching tour, first we saw a Dugong (similar to the American Manatee). It was simply amazing, as they are my favourite water mammals. After we saw dolphins and a sea turtle - then came the whales and plenty of them! A mother and baby took particular interest in our boat with the bottom deck crammed full of school kids - the kids waved at the whales and they put on a spectacular show!

Onto Fraser.... we decided to do a 2 day 1 night guided safari as it was the most suitable option because of my flight back to Sydney. Also, there is not much point doing a self-drive safari unless you are prepared to spend half of your trip bogged in sand.

We visited, 75 mile beach, Indian Head, Champagne Pools, Lake Wabby, Lake Birabeen, Eli Creek, Moheno Ship Wreck, various rainforests and stayed in a super luxury campsite! Our tents had 2 single beds in and polished wooden floors!

The most rewarding part was the 1.8km hike to Lake Wabby - you walk over huge sand dunes to get there and think that you are on the verge of death and your calves are about to explode, but the view of the fantastic lake is sooo worth it!

We saw all of 1 dingo - yipee doo dah day. It was a very helthy looking girl who took it upon herself to race us down 75 mile beach - we won.

Take a look at the photos i've uploaded of Fraser and of the huge gang of us that went out for my birthday - I didn't take too many photos as I was far too busy drinking, dancing and having a grand old time.

Being 24 is good, but 25 is so much better!! I'm a quarter of a century old now - wooo hoooo

It was raining for most of the time, but it seemed to magically stop when we arrived at each beach - bizarre! The surfers were out in force though, some of the waves were about 10 feet high!

So this week has been uneventful so far - made friends with some tops lads from Cumbria yesterday at the aqua class!! They are taking me out for my birthday around Newtown, which is the trendy suburb next to mine. My housemates are coming too - we've had a few new ones arrive - a couple from Ireland, a girl from Zambia and a guy from Russia - we are now a totally multicultural household!!

If anyone would like to see a video of me and the Sydney Opera House let me know - it's highly amusing!

I'm flying to Fraser Island on Tuesday for a few days so am really looking forward to that! Watch out for those Dingo's!!

xx

Katoomba itself is lovely - if I had known just how lovely it was I would not have inflicted smog central upon myself.

I must apologise to all those people that I've had my huge moans to over the past few weeks. I* have discovered the reason that I've have turned Anti-Australia. It is the people of Sydney. The majority of them are not Australian born which makes them all rude arrogant idiots. The Australians are actually a nice bunch of people.

4 weeks to go in Smog Central then off to chilled out Melbourne for me - yeee haaaa

Oh, also, just uploaded pics to photobucket:

On a slighty even more boring note - I have uploaded a picture of my 3 knitting projects - Mum take a look!! I am getting good!!
